Jellyskin

Jellyskin Hyde Park Book Club 15.02.19 This duo were insular and very absorbed in their music making. They created a lot of spacial sound which vibrated, surrounding the room. Their music filled the space with lots of tasteful effects. Her wistful and ghost like singing soared and when harmonised was melting. The vocals were indistinguishable but the music was all about the sounds. The set was continuous with smooth transitions between the pieces and into the next unpredictable elements of their songs.

Household Dogs

Household Dogs Hyde Park Book Club 02.02.18 The band was made up of interesting characters.  They were playing unusual instruments, a slide guitar and a bass with no body, absorbed in a blue light. The lead singer stared the audience down. He was very engaging but also quite intimidating and made you feel quite uncomfortable. He also had a very unique stance, prowling around like a dinosaur. This was a very memorable performance. At one point the lead singer came off the stage into the audience and made his way to stand and sing from the back of the stage on an amp. Their music was also very interesting. The singer had a diverse voice which was really sweet and cynically and then suddenly full of rage. It was very indie but with bursts of punk angriness. Since seeing them I have listened to their recorded music and it lacks the punk element. Was this unique to the performance? To that specific performance?
