It was amazing when the singer of Bastille came into the audience. I really admire him because he managed to keep perfectly singing whilst everyone was trying to push and touch him. What is the fascination of touching someone famous? Does it really make you feel closer to them? It really brought to light that although he is hugely famous, he is just a normal human being.
It was hilarious to watch the other members of the band also wanting the limelight, the drummer especially. Every now and then he would come to the front of the stage and just stand there thinking he was Jack Black. When the singer came off-stage the guitarist and the drummer were playing catch with drumsticks and you could only see that gem of a moment if you weren’t obsessed with the lead singer.
The stage lighting extremely impressive, especially in the song Pompeii where the stage basically exploded with red (volcano lava) lighting. It was incredibly atmospheric.
My favourite part of the performance was realising that the singer danced and held himself in exactly the same way as one of my friends. I spent ages trying to capture the exact dance move to send to my friend but it made me grin every time I saw it!
There were some ridiculous projections next to the stage that were collaging random objects like gas masks and beds with the singer’s face over-layed. They were very unnecessary and didn’t add anything to the performance at all.
We stayed for the just the right length of time. They had timed the gig so that it ended at the time that Edinburgh castle was letting off fireworks and they timed it perfectly. It was amazing for their last song to finish with a beautiful explosion of colour.
This would normally be the type of music that I actively avoid however I had such a good time.
